Animania @ Robinson's Galleria Cosplay contest report + photos
Well, as I've mentioned in a previous entry, through a series of circumstances, I somehow ended up at the judges' table at a recent cosplay competition. The event was organized by some college kids from Miriam College for their... er... Events Management course, and was held at Robinson's Galleria last September 13.
Anyway, the day didn't quite start right for me. For one, the event was advertised to begin at noon, and I arrived about 15 minutes early, expecting to immediately be asked to take my place and do what I had to do, but the event started a good 2 hours or so late. My contact with the organizers apologized profusely and she was nice and all, but I suppose it can't be helped that tardiness just happens to be one of my pet peeves, so that's unfortunate. Thankfully,
magiqa and
idle_eidolon were with me at the time, so I didn't get bored. I think I would have left and headed back for home after the first hour, had they not been with me then. Considering the fact that I just came straight from a tiring nine-hour shift that day, I don't think I would have had the patience to hang around until something finally happened. O_O;;
Um. Let's just say that there's LOTS of room for improvement with regards to how the entire show was handled. ^_^;;
Moving on...
So, the show finally started, Elea managed to get a seat behind me, Ian decided to wander off and join the MTG crowd which was on the same floor as the cosplay event, and the other judges also arrived. I was pretty surprised to look up from my scoring sheet to suddenly find Alodia taking her seat next to me, but I think I should have expected that the moment the everyone around me took out their cameras and just started snapping away. Haha! I just really didn't expect her or any known personality to be there since the website which announced the event wasn't particularly informative. Anyway, I eventually figured out that they invited Miriam College alumni like Alodia and one of the emcees (some lady who works as a DJ at a local radio station) to drop by, so it made sense.
Once everyone was settled down, the cosplay event finally started.

Because the cosplayers didn't exactly have a private area to get ready in, we caught glimpses of them helping eachother out with their costumes. Of course, with us perceiving them to be their characters, the scenes could get pretty weird and could give people like me wrong ideas. But isn't that sweet? XD

And finally, cosplayer number 1! I was right when I told

And then there's this guy who dressed up as a blue loli. According to him, he's cosplaying as a character who is a guy who needs to cosplay as a blue loli. I have no idea which series that is from, but okay. Besides, Elea and I wanted to buy his costume off of him because we wanted to make Daryl wear it. We figured that Daryl + Loli outfit = PROFIT!!!

Elea's sign of protest begins to manifest in her hair.

KENPACHI!!!

And then there's our Ragnarok Ninja who had a good number of fans in the audience. Both male and female. XD
I was surprised that there was only ONE Naruto contestant that day...
And then there's our friendly, neighborhood terrorists and counter-terrorists. There guys were WIN, by the way. XD

And then there's another crowd favorite, Nova! (Looking at this guy makes me want to run to a surgeon to get a liposuction ASAP. He's so SLIM!!)
Later on, Ian finally got curious enough because of all the noise, and he decided to drop by and see what was going on. XD
And we was just in time to catch... BY CROM!!! CONAN!!
Why, hello, little girl!
I'M BATMAN!!
Lolz. Seriously though, this guy's costume was cool. ^_^
And if there's Batman, then there's gotta be a Joker around.
And then there's our pretty boi Zechs! Haha! When he came up to the stage, the crowd on one side (which was also partly-composed of his fellow-cosplayers) all started chanting "WE WANT ZECHS!!!" over and over again. Needless to say, it came out very, very wrong. XD
Pretty boy was even gallant enough to present a plastic rose to my pretty seatmate, much to the crowd's delight. I did hear some grumblings that that was something TREIZE and not ZECHS would do, but hey, even Zechs has got moods, ne? XD
Wolverine was up next, who was a LOT of fun, since when he's not strutting all macho-like on the catwalk, he's actually openly girly-gay. XD
Needless to say, I like this guy. And so does Joker. XD
There's the Puffy Ami Yumi girls...
And then there's Mokona. Wait, whut??? O_O
Okay, okay, it's Ichimaru Gin. Phew.
HERE's Mokona and Modoki.
The MOST EMO...EST Roxas in the worlds. EVAR.
WIN WIN WIN!!!!
OHMAYGHADHARDGAYMAN!!!!!!!! FUUUUUUUU~~!!!

Zombie SpiderMan also made an appearance. However, he claims that he actually looks that way because he has nothing to eat, and one of the emcees (the one that isn't... blank) grabbed a drink from someone in the crowd and gave it to the guy. Who drank it. AHahahahhaa!!!
I have no idea what just happened at this point. It all just happened too fast for me. XD Ishida Uryuu + Haruhi Suzumiya + ??? + OTOKO = ???

This Bubblegum Crisis mech suit was just awesome. And it also makes the wearer's butt look great! I swear! O_O;;
But then, everything was forgotten when CatWoman got on stage.

MEOOOOOOW!~~
Oh, and here's a couple of shots of the band that played at the event. They were actually pretty good, but I didn't catch their names or anything. Again, there was no information about them in the official announcement. ^_^;;; (EDIT: Hazel has pointed out in the comments that the band's name is Maya's Anklet. Yay!)

The judges' table.
Eto na, PIKTYUR, PIKTYUR WITH ALODIA~!! ^_____^

I had to go right after the cosplay because I WAS DAMNED HUNGRY at that point. Lolz. And as proof that I was there, the organizers gave me this. I suppose I would have preferred food, GCs or some other freebie, but I ain't complaining. It was a nice frame. XD
Anyway, the cosplayers themselves were a lot of fun, but after the scores have been sumitted and the awarding ceremonies were about to begin, I was a bit disappointed to find that there were other people who were there in some really cool costumes, who didn't get to join the competition. It was a shame since we saw some pretty cool costumes for V, Haruhi, Sabre, etc. I think I even saw a guy in a Code Geass school uniform. :(
Before we went home, I tried taking a video of the crowd and of the band, and of Elea and Ian who were now both part of the audience, but I discovered that it was rather difficult when everyone who wanted to take their pictures taken with Alodia were rushing to get in front of you. Lol. Oh well. I still got what I wanted, and I even got footage of terrorists doing the Caramel Dansen, so it wasn't so bad. Here's the video. XD
I think I wanna try judging another cosplay contest some time. It was fun, and the view was great! XD More photos at My Multiply Album! ^_^v
